Cameras have two kinds of zooming to consider when looking at buying a new camera. Optical is when the actual lens is zooming in and digital is when the camera takes the pixels and digitally zooms in. Always look at the optical and NOT digital. The clarity is not going to be as good with digital and that's something you can do after the picture is taken. But getting a crystal clear image is the ultimate goal right! If you're out shopping for a new camera the information should say if it's digital or optical (if it doesn't chances are it's digital and they're just hiding that from you).
